{"id":1464,"date":"2018-11-29T21:25:11","date_gmt":"2018-11-29T21:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/?p=1464"},"modified":"2021-01-15T23:07:16","modified_gmt":"2021-01-15T23:07:16","slug":"olympus-30mm-macro-lens-for-micro-four-thirds-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/?p=1464","title":{"rendered":"Olympus 30mm macro lens &#8211; For micro four thirds cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I personally own this camera lens and enjoy using it for several reasons which I will state below:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Size &#8211; its compact length.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It doesn&#8217;t weigh a great deal at only 128g.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It&#8217;s made of a high quality plastic construction with a good overall finish.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The large size of the manual focusing ring makes it easier to use.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The 46mm filter size which is common to most micro four thirds lenses.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The 35mm focal length of this lens is equal to a 60mm lens on a full frame camera body which I am used to operating with my Nikon camera system.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">For such a light-weight compact unit, it produces very sharp and detailed images with good contrast.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Within the macro lenses produced by Olympus and Panasonic, it is currently the cheapest lens available. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">In my opinion this lens is the most realistic step into macro lens photography currently available for the micro four thirds system.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I personally find these to be the positive aspects of owning this lens. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Things that I find useful about this lens are:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Its fast and accurate auto focus speed. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I like the high 1:1; it does in fact go higher at a maximum magnification of 1.25x which gives a focusing length of only 14mm from the front element of the lens. I don&#8217;t personally use this as I find this does not suit my style of photography and it is technically very hard to accomplish due to the close proximity of the subject and the loss of the available light.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Olympus-macro.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1465\" src=\"https:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Olympus-macro-736x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"315\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Olympus-macro-736x1024.jpg 736w, https:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Olympus-macro-216x300.jpg 216w, https:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Olympus-macro-768x1069.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gcmphotographic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Olympus-macro.jpg 1437w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 315px) 100vw, 315px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The not-so-good aspects of this lens are:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The usual Olympus issue of not supplying a lens hood with their lenses.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">This lens doesn&#8217;t have a focusing scale on it. However to me this is not important as I primarily focus via my LCD camera screen. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Some people may miss the lack of weather sealing but I personally photograph once the rain has stopped!<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 M<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I personally own this camera lens and enjoy using it for several reasons which I will state below: Size &#8211; its compact length.
